Saturday 15 June – Thursday 11 July
Trestle is pleased to welcome an exciting collection of work produced by current Contemporary Applied Arts Students from the University of Hertfordshire. Based on the legacy of the Olympic Games, the Olympic Torch Relay and Paralympic Flame coming to St Albans, the students were invited by the St Albans Arts, Sport & Health Development Team to create innovative, recycled artworks using the official 2012 merchandise- donated by local authorities throughout Hertfordshire.
The students have transformed kilometres of branded fabric and banners into pieces of artwork large and small, forming an eclectic range of jewellery, accessories and Applied Art items. All of the merchandise used is 100 % recycled, capturing the memories and inspiration of the Olympic Games.
Alongside this project, children from Fleetville Junior School, Prae Wood Primary School, Camp Primary School, Oakwood Primary School and Garden Fields JMI School have also been busy creating weird and wonderful structures, working with 5 local artists. These artworks will be installed in situ, to again create a reminder and legacy of Olympic 2012.
The exhibition is open from Saturday 15th June to Thursday 11th July, when it moves to Verulamium Museum, St Albans until August 2013.
