To celebrate the tenth anniversary of their first live performance, alternative indie rock band ‘The Vaulted Skies’ returns to their hometown to throw a Halloween party featuring live music, Tarot readings, close-up magic, DJ sets, fancy dress and more.

Described by Trebuchet as the lovechild of Robert Smith and Boy George, the beard-afflicted, kohl-eyed singer-songwriter James AJ Scott put The Vaulted Skies together in 2013 to bring peace to the galaxy through a fusion of edgy alternative rock and danceable electronica, shot through with the dynamics of grunge and bouts of epic melancholia.

In his iconic yellow woollen-framed spectacles and badge-emblazoned lab-coat, Doktor Ben Singleton can be found stage-right conducting sonic experiments on a second guitar alongside Scott’s.

…easily one of the most criminally underrated alternative acts in the UK right now.

The line-up is completed by bassist Andy McFarlane (who joined after answering an ad on a sort of Tinder for musicians), and drummer Mat Hector (who also plays for Iggy Pop, Grace Jones and other artists of legendary stature, and was hypnotised into playing with The Vaulted Skies using an incantation of questionable moral (and health & safety) standards.

The Vaulted Skies’ first full band performance was at their hometown venue, The Horn in St Albans. A venue to which they’ve returned many times since, most notably in support of The Cure and David Bowie guitarist Reeves Gabrels during his UK tour in 2015.

Either side of that, the band has played hundreds of shows nationwide, including European dates before Brexit and COVID curtailed their travels.

Following the launch of their debut EP ‘No Fate?’ in 2017, the band has released a string of singles. So far in 2023, these include ‘Almost Happy’- a song born of the turmoil induced by the first lockdown in 2020 - and the Eastern-flavoured alt.rock epic ‘Hollowhead’, of which A&R Factory said: “Get to it. From start to 6-minute finish, it’s sheer perfection.”

Critical acclaim has been consistent, as this extract from the band’s Electronic Press Kit attests:

The 28th October event will also feature close-up “Gothic Magick” from Dr. John’s Arcanum, Tarot readings from Madam Jojo, all-vinyl DJ sets by Eddie James of Empire Records and live music from a band of zombie pirates!
