Thursday 16 May- Thursday 13 June.
Put together by the St Albans Arts, Sport and Health Team and the Museums Service, Shelter in the Storm saw local artist Flea Cooke work with the Women’s Refuge and the St Luke’s Sharing Stories group, to create touchingly beautiful pieces of artwork that reflect their memories, stories and personalities.
Inspired by a display at the Museum of St Albans showing a mannequin of a washer woman, the exhibition is a celebration focusing on ordinary women coping in extraordinary circumstances and of life during WWII. Acknowledging their resilience to ‘shelter in the storm’ the show highlights the profile of the Women’s Refuge and the elderly and their value to the community.
‘Shelter in the Storm’ has previously exhibited at the Museum of St Albans and St Luke’s Church.
