A family afternoon featuring the songs of I. K. Dairo, the father of juju music and one of Africa's first international music stars. Come and enjoy the wisdom and philosophy of I.K. Dairo music. Songs which he once said, “often came to him at night, in dreams, borne upon the wind and the wings of angels."
I.K Dairo is the only African Musician to have received the honour of Member of The British Empire (MBE). In commemorating 55 years since I.K. Dairo’s receipt of this honour, this workshop traces his life and works. Starting from 1957 when he created the ‘Morning Orchestra’ until his membership of the Ethnomusicology department at the University of Washington, Seattle.
A cultural project celebrating the life and works of I.K Dairo and commemorating the 55th anniversary of his receipt of the MBE, the only African to achieve such an honour, for his services to music in Africa and the commonwealth.
