Trestle Youth Board Blog | Karene and Freddie are Running 10k for Trestle Arts Base!

Karene and Freddie are lacing up their trainers and hitting the road, all to raise money for the creative groups, community sessions, and safe spaces that make Trestle what it is.

Why are they running?

For Freddie, it's personal.

"I'm representing my favourite place and Trestle deserves the support to run my favourite things. I wanted to be able to contribute my bit to the place I've been going to since I was 11, before I head off to university."

When Freddie watched Karene and Hatty cross the finish line of a half marathon for Trestle, he knew he wanted in. A chance to challenge himself and stand up for a place so close to his heart was too good to pass up. Karene knows exactly what she has signed up for, having already taken on a half marathon for Trestle, and she would not have it any other way.

What your donation supports

Trestle Arts Base is a mask and physical theatre company with over 40 years of experience, rooted in the heart of St Albans. Every week, over 100 people come through our doors, children, young people, and adults, for creative sessions that build confidence, reduce isolation, and improve wellbeing.

In a single year, we run:

  • 90 sessions for adults with multiple needs

  • 144 sessions for young people aged 4 to 18

Over 85% of participants say their sessions improve their mood. Our School of Drama has been described as inspiring, comforting, welcoming and for some young people, it is the one place outside home where they feel truly comfortable.

The groups that Trestle runs every week rely on continued funding to keep going. With costs rising and grants harder to come by, community fundraising plays a vital role in making sure these sessions remain available to everyone who needs them. Your donation helps us to continue to offer:

  • Affordable, accessible creative sessions for everyone

  • Bursaries so cost is never a barrier

  • A warm, welcoming building where community can thrive

  • Resources, props, and costumes that bring our work to life

Support Karene & Freddie, and everyone who calls Trestle home.

Every pound they raise goes directly to keeping Trestle's community groups running. No amount is too small, and every donation means the world.

… But that’s not all… After a morning of running 10k to fundraise for all things Trestle, our Youth Leadership Board will be hosting an open mic night to help fund all the classes and activities that happen here at Trestle Arts Base.

We are welcoming performers aged 12 – 18 years to share their work with us, from poetry to acoustic music, rapping to monologues and scene play. Each performer will have 7 minutes to perform. There are limited spots available so if you are interested drop an email to takingpart@trestle.org.uk.

Application deadline: Thursday 12th June 2026, 4pm.
