The Dance Studio

The Dance Studio has been established for over 20 years and offers classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz and Street Dance from age 3 to adult.

Classes

Ballet

Ballet forms the basis of all forms of Dance and is very popular throughout the school. Classes create a positive learning environment and an arena to express creativity and artistic expression. Ballet is excellent for strength, flexibility and posture.

Nursery Ballerina classes start at age three. The class is a ballet structure taught through imaginative storytelling and creative movement. Props such as Teddy Bears, ribbons, feathers and fairy wands are used to create a magical atmosphere. Stories based on Angelina Ballerina, a trip to the seaside and flying on a magic carpet are examples of the many themes used in our lessons.

After a year or so children are usually ready to attend a more structured class and progress to Pre-Primary where they are able to work towards their first ISTD ballet exam (optional). After this they progress to Primary and then throughout the Grades. Examinations are offered at every stage but are not compulsory. If a child chooses not to take an exam then he or she will just progress through the school with their peers.

Tap

Tap dancing is great fun, energetic and an excellent way to keep fit. It teaches listening skills and helps develop musicality, individual style and self-confidence. It also has the added attraction of being very noisy! We offer classes for pupils from four years to advanced. ISTD examinations are available.

Modern Dance

The ISTD examination syllabus is studied and classes are offered for children of four years upwards. Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style.  Children love the dynamic style and popular music used in these classes.

Jazz Dance

The ISTD Jazz Medal syllabus is studied and examinations are available. This high energy style of dance follows current trends and is great for fitness, creativity and confidence. The classes include technique and limbering plus trendy dance routines and combinations.

Contemporary Dance

Students will learn inspirational and challenging routines which convey musicality and emotion to a wide variety of popular music. Movements are flowing, expressive and dynamic including leaps, kicks, jumps, pirouettes and floor work. This is a high energy dance style that uses strong technique, passion and performance.

Pointe Work

It is every young ballerina’s dream to get her first pair of pointe shoes! Our pupils are put onto Pointe at a time that is right for them and when their bodies are mature and strong enough to cope with what pointe work demands of them. This allows the pupil to gain in strength every week and understand how the body works, including core strength, posture and technique.

Acrobatic Arts

This exciting class often referred to as Acro is a wonderful fusion of dance and gymnastics. Pupils study all aspects of this exhilarating dance style such as flexibility, tumbling, balancing and strength. Simple thoughtful progressions take the beginner preschool level dancer from log rolls and somersaults to the advanced dancer tumbling effortlessly across the stage! We follow the world-renowned Acrobatic Arts Syllabus which offers safe and effective progressions and exams are offered at every level. We are delighted to be offering this fantastic style of dance at our Studio.
