Orwell On Jura by Tom McNab

Sun 4 June, 7.15pm (refreshments 6.30pm)
All Tickets £12 (incl. refreshments)

‘It was a bright cold day in April and the clocks were striking thirteen’. So begins George Orwell’s iconic novel 1984, the prediction of a society ruled by ‘Big Brother’ and ‘alternative facts’. It’s frighteningly relevant today – no wonder 1984 is a best-seller again in the US and the UK!

Orwell went to the remote island of Jura in 1947, a man plagued by sickness, determined to write his last work. Orwell on Jura is about his struggle to finish 1984, his wry humour, perceptive wit, ghostly friends …..and life on the island itself.

As a young man Tom McNab read all of Orwell’s novels and in Orwell on Jura he gives a delightful, intimate portrait of the great man, as if he has known him for many years.

Orwell on Jura is a rehearsed play reading directed by Michael Vaughan and performed by a professional cast in aid of Rennie Grove Hospice.
