Trestle welcomes local artist Chantal Ridings to the gallery with a new body of work entitled ‘Metonymy’. Inspired by how we use our hands to express ourselves in ways that words often cannot and often open to interpretation by the receiver, Chantal creates handsewn textile pieces to represent these everyday “metonymic” hand gestures.
Chantal is a self taught artist from South Africa, now residing in the UK. She has a wonderful take on people and stereotypes. Her work is fun, serious, humorous and wry. A lot of Chantal’s work makes light of serious everyday themes, along with the belief that Art need not be complicated. Her main focus is textile art, though she enjoys approaching a wide range of materials and subjects.
