JOIN US TO CELEBRATE SOME OF HERTFORDSHIRE’S FINEST FEMALE ARTISTS AND SCIENTISTS

Sunday 2 October, 2pm – 5pm
FREE ENTRY

Everyone an Artist, Everyone a Scientist

Trestle Arts Base will open its doors as a Fun Palace from 2-5pm on Sunday 2th October. Local schools, volunteers and artists will come together to celebrate some of Hertfordshire’s women of arts and science.

Join in art, science and drama activities and find out more about:

  • Bug hunter, entomologist and first Edinburgh University lecturer Eleanor Ormerod
  • Enid Blyton’s Famous Five illustrator Eileen Soper, only 15 when she exhibited at the Royal Academy as the youngest artist ever
  • Archaeologist Tessa Verney Wheeler who excavated Roman Verulamium
  • Groundbreaking war artist Lucy Kemp-Welch
  • Animator Joy Batchelor
  • First midwifery inspector E. Margaret Burnside
  • Learn about the science of parachuting, as Edwardian ballooning parachutist Dolly Shepherd is brought to life

Explore Trestle grounds with bug hunter Eleanor… Draw adventures as if you were one of the Famous Five… Dig for Roman remains… Imagine how you would parachute before the aeroplane was invented…

Drama games, science experiments, dressing up, café and music…

“Choose what you want to do – or watch someone else doing it… Dance, talk or be lifted up to where you can see how other people make things work. Sit out over space with a drink and tune in to what’s happening elsewhere in the city. Try starting a riot or beginning a painting – or just lie back and stare at the sky.” – (Joan Littlewood & Cedric Price)
