9 January - 26 March 2012
Mondays 4pm - 6.30pm
The Young People's Theatre (TYPT) is for people aged 8 - 12 who want to participate in drama projects, learn new skills and make new friends.
Earlier this year, when the government made its cuts in culture, Trestle lost its future funding, had to hone to its strengths and decide how to cut back public output for the time being.
Determined to not let down our 50 strong dedicated Youth Theatre members and to keep supporting young people’s creativity across the District, we have joined forces with our local professional theatre company Tip of the Iceberg.
Tip of the Iceberg has a wealth of experience delivering creative performance, workshops and training. Their work has taken them from performing in local schools to thousands of students, including Verulam, Beaumont, St Albans Boys and the High school, to Prince Charles’ Garden at Clarence House with High Speed Theatre for Eurostar. Tip of the Iceberg and Trestle share the ethos to Involve, Inform and Inspire.
Lisa Schulberg Youth Theatre director said “It‟s not all about, "stars‟, it‟s about making sure everyone gets involved, feels good about themselves and has fun whilst learning new skills and meeting new people. We are going to work towards all the groups putting on a Christmas production in December. Anyone who wants to give it a try should get in touch with us and come along on the 12th”.
Through this partnership, Trestle will re-launch the Youth Theatre to provide sessions that bring together theatre and performance skills in a fun and nurturing environment, available to all children and young people of any ability.
Lead by professional, friendly tutors and visiting specialists, all classes run on Mondays during term time.
TYPT0 (up to 8 years) 4pm - 5pm
TYPT2 (8 to 12 years) 5pm - 6.30pm
Participants don’t need any drama experience to join, just imagination, enthusiasm, a positive attitude and a willingness to get on with lots of different people.
Cost: TYPT0 £72 per term.
TYPT2 £84 per term.
The ages listed for the groups are a guideline and actual group placement will be based on ability and maturity.
Classes begin on Monday 9 January. There will be no classes on Monday 13 February due to half term.
